Honey Possum, South West WA
A Honey Possum in a Regelia Velutina flower. These little guys pretty much exclusively live on nectar & a bit of pollen so require nectar rich flowers all year round. Something the flora rich South West WA provides in abundance. You would naturally assume they would be mostly nocturnal but are active from around mid/late afternoon till mid/late morning, even during the middle of the day on cool cloudy days. The young ones can be pretty easily spooked but otherwise there main focus is nectar so theres no issues getting close to them, i even had some run between my legs. Apart from when they have there head in a flower they rarely stop, all that sugar & a insatiable appetite! They weigh around 7 to 10 grams, body length around 60 to 85mm & tail around 85 to 100mm.
